Bugsy Malone – Stage Door Youth Theatre

Bugsy Malone – Stage Door Youth Theatre

Bugsy Malone is a gangster spoof being brought to you by our local youngsters from The Stage Door Youth Theatre. The production will be showing from 26th – 28th March at the Pendle Hippodrome Theatre. Tickets are available from http://www.phtheatre.co.uk/.

The average age of the Stage Door Youth Theatre is 13, so whilst some of the original themes are considered inappropriate and archaic, the show is a fantastic vehicle for the younger company. The production offers the opportunity for great character work, a jazz style of singing and an opportunity to research and reflect on a bye gone era – the roaring 20’s.

Janet Philbrook – Director said,

“We have worked very hard on the style of the piece from physicality, accents, connotations, to hair styles! Indeed, we had a hair workshop with Catherine Lunt from Touch Hair and Beauty in Colne to give our girls the opportunity of understanding that hair was worn very differently in the era of Bugsy Malone.

From our initial casting in October to date, our young company have thrived on this project and worked hard to refine accents, mannerisms and have a good understanding of lots of Americanisms and themes within the piece.

We hope you enjoy our thoughtful presentation of Bugsy Malone and, to our members, in the words of Dandy Dan, ‘I would like to thank you for your work so far, everything has gone swell. Just swell!’”
